I upgraded to 64bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Ableton the day it came out and I have never seen that session breaking message again. I was forever getting the "out of memory" crash when trying to create rather simple stuff but using large string and piano libraries in layers due to windows only accessing a total of 3GB of RAM when I had 8GB installed under a 32bit OS. My move (like most) straight to 64bit was simply because of huge sound librarys in Omnisphere, Ableton itself and Komplete (kontact player).

I think many believe that just going to 64bit software magically makes it like twice as powerful. I still have the same power limit using 64 and possibly it consumes just a touch more power but not that I can notice. Performance wise, there is really little difference in running the 64bit over 32bit in regards to "getting more out of the CPU". Which brings up another question as I typically move projects between studios - so I definitely need to know if projects can get flipped between 32 & 64bit versions as long as the VST's have both 32 & 64bit versions?Īny input or feedback would be greatly appreciated - thanks all!

Just wanted to check to see if I have to decide between installing the 32 & 64bit version or maybe both?! If I open a project with the 64bit version, will it load the 64bit versions of the plugs or will it require the 32bit version? I guess I could install both versions and finish up my existing projects with the 32bit version and start anything new in the 64bit version? I want to install the 64bit version on my new Mac, but wanted to know if I can still open my 32bit projects made on my PC (most of my plugs have both 32 and 64bit versions). So all my projects are saved under that format, including Max4Live devices (32bit as well). I was running the 32bit version of live on my PC and running into issues with CPU overload when I had quite a few efx & instrument VST'. I've made the jump from PC to Mac and picked up a pretty kick-ass Mac Book Pro. Quick question around 32bit vs 64bit versions of Live.
